COUPLES COUNSELING
Marriage is hard and takes a lot of work from both partners. Whether you are looking for new ways to communicate effectively, learn how to parent better as a team, or rebuild your marriage after an affair, marital counseling can help you work toward reconnecting with your partner and improving your relationship.
Treatment specialization for Couples includes:
MARITAL THERAPY: THE GOTTMAN METHOD
In the 1970’s Dr. John Gottman set out to discover if there were patterns of behaviors that distinguished happy couples from unhappy couples. Along with his wife, Dr. Julie Gottman, he used his research to develop therapeutic interventions to strengthen the marriage relationship. I have completed Levels I, II, and III of the Gottman Method training, and use this framework extensively in my work with couples.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION
Therapy is both an art and a science. While it’s possible to learn the basic scientific principles in school, the art of therapy can prove challenging. Clinical supervision prepares mental health trainees to tackle these and many other issues by offering oversight and support from a more experienced provider. To become licensed to practice, all mental health providers must complete a minimum number of therapy hours under clinical supervision.
Learning Objectives of Supervision
- To enhance supervisees’ skills, competence and confidence
- To provide a reflective space and emotional support
- To provide assistance with professional development
- To ensure that services to clients is safe, ethical and competent
- To ensure compliance with professional and organizational treatment standards & practice
